According to reports, a five-year-old girl was killed at Ada Magazine in the New Juaben South Municipality in the Eastern Region after a structure collapsed on her during a torrential downpour.

The tragedy happened on Saturday as Kukua Esther, the deceased, and her 7-year-old brother were inside the structure.

Both kids were reportedly brought to the Koforidua Central Hospital, but the female was declared dead by medical personnel.

The young girl’s body has been placed at the mortuary, while the youngster who suffered injuries is currently receiving care.

Diana Labotey, the mother of the children, described the incident to Citi FM saying, “The children were standing behind me in the kitchen, but I noticed they were feeling cold, so I asked them to go into the room. So after 10 minutes, I heard a loud sound, so I rushed into the room and noticed the back of the building had collapsed on the children. The head of the girl was badly damaged, so when we rushed them to the hospital, she was pronounced dead, but the boy is still at the hospital.”

Authorities from the Ghana Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), who both visited the spot, have started their inquiries.
