A team from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former president John Dramani Mahama paid a condolence visit to former president John Agyekum Kufuor and his family on Wednesday, October 4, following the demise of former first lady Theresa Kufuor.

The dead was popularly referred to as “Mother of the Nation” during her time as First Lady due to her dignified demeanor, according to Mr. Mahama, who was in attendance together with his wife, former First Lady Lordina.

The delegation included Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC’s National Chairman, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, the party’s Political Committee, and other elders from the council of elders.

John Dramani Mahama signed the Book of Condolence on behalf of the NDC.

He wrote: “We are all saddened by the passing of our respected mother, former First Lady Madam Theresa Kufuor. She carried herself with dignity and was truly acknowledged by the people of Ghana as the mother of the Nation. On this sad occasion, our hearts go out to the widower, President Agyekum Kufuor, and the entire family. May God grant her peaceful repose.”

According to the family, funeral plans are in the works and will be announced soon.

According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive, flags are still flying at half-mast in the interim.

On Monday, October 2, the directive began to take effect, and it was supposed to last until Sunday, October 8.
