Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of parliament (MP) representing the North Tongu district, has praised the resignation of Reverend Eastwood Anaba and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams from the Board of Trustees overseeing the building of Ghana’s National Cathedral.

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the two esteemed Men of God announced their resignation, blaming the government for failing to engage a reputable accounting firm to carry out an exhaustive audit of all public funds allocated to the project.

Reacting to this, Mr. Ablakwa said the resignation vindicates him.
“I want to commend highly the two revered clergymen. Some may say it is delayed, but I will say better later than never because they have covered themselves in glory with this resignation and it is a clear confirmation of the things I have been talking about,” he said on Accra-based Citi TV.

“Look at how they say they have been frustrated about getting the board to carry out an independent audit. If these folks have nothing to hide, why did they really prevent efforts by these respected clergymen to have an independent audit?” he quizzed.

“Our motion has gone through, the Speaker approved it and the House has voted on it, and we are just waiting for the NPP side to send their membership, and we will have a full-blown inquiry and delve into the matters” he disclosed.

Along with their colleagues Bishop Dag Heward Mills and Dr. Mensa Otabil, the two Bible experts left the Board earlier this year.

Considering the controversy that has dogged the project, Duncan-Williams and Eastwood Anaba demanded its immediate suspension and a financial examination on January 23.

They stated that the suspension would make it possible to give the Ghanaian people transparency and accountability.

The auditor(s) must be someone who is widely known, according to the two revered preachers.

The project will now be subject to a statutory audit, the Board of Trustees stated after hiring Deloitte.

But the preachers said that little had been spoken about their request, which was why they resigned.
